The Venus Awards - Dorset Final - October 2016
The Dorset Venus Awards celebrated the county’s working women before 418 people. The event, at the Bournemouth International Centre, saw cosmetics company Lush recognised with a special award which saw them named as Outstanding Business of the Year. The Poole-based business was among 16 award-winners at the event.
Dubbed the “Working Women’s Oscars” by Channel 4 and now in its seventh year in Dorset, the Venus Awards goes from strength-to-strength in discovering and recognising the talents of enterprising women in our midst.
Once again Solent Works were asked to help with the set up and running of the Dorset finals. Our team set up the seating plans, dressed the tables and chairs with mirror and candelabra centrepieces, chair covers and sashes, set up and put the trophies and certificates in order and stuffed the goody bags with treats provided by the sponsors and businesses that attended the night.
We greeted the guests as they arrived, gathered the sponsors and finalists for group photos, set up the sponsors banners, briefed the sponsors on the running order of the event and helped guests find their places. During the event we took photos and videos and uploaded to the Venus Awards' social media platforms, looked after the guests at their tables, collected charity money and ran the raffle and voting for the talent category. Our staff also guided the winners and their sponsors during the event for photos and interviews.
At midnight the guests left and we commenced the loading out of the event. We packed away the candelabras, mirrors, chair covers and sashes, collected up any leftover goody bag items to be returned to the companies, packed away the sponsors banners and loaded up the cars.
It was a 16 hour day for our team of 11 managers and assistants! But even at the end of the night every member of staff still had a smile on their face. Here is some of our team.

Solent Works have assisted at many regional awards including Southampton, Basingstoke, Portsmouth, Brighton and Devon. Working alongside these prestigious award ceremonies has been very rewarding for the whole team; it is essential to Solent Works to provide an efficient and invaluable service and we look forward to continuing our relationship with The Venus Awards in the future.
